Developmental Programs

As a participant in one of our many developmental programs, you will be one of a select group of early talent professionals – Ingersoll Rand interviews thousands of soon-to-be college graduates on campuses worldwide, but accepts only the best for each program. We take a wide variety of attributes into account for each candidate selected, and believe that diversity is a powerful and important part of our company.

Ingersoll Rand's developmental programs enable you to work with global, cross-functional teams, rotate to different areas of the company in various positions, and gain valuable exposure to one of our company's greatest assets – our vast network of proven successful leaders. You'll also be paired with an advisor/mentor who has a leadership position in your functional area of interest.

Operations

As an Operations ADP participant, you will complete two assignments in Strategic Sourcing and Manufacturing. You will spend 1.5 years in manufacturing roles gaining experience in materials, plant, supervision, and learn followed by 1 year in a Strategic Sourcing role. Your experiences in the program will be designed to help you develop a sound operations foundation with skills in key areas including:

  • Plant manufacturing
  • Materials
  • Plant floor supervision
  • Lean/Six Sigma
  • Strategic sourcing
  • Planning strategy
  • Operational excellence
  • Sales inventory operations planning

 

To qualify for the program you must hold a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Management or Industrial Distribution, with a 3.0 GPA or higher. You should also have at least two leadership experiences such as a school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor or similar position, and have two related internships or six months of related manufacturing experience. You must also be geographically mobile both on and off program.

Marketing

As a Marketing ADP participant, you will complete two 12-month assignments with an opportunity for an additional 6 month cross functional assignment. Your experiences in the program will be designed to help you develop a sound marketing foundation with skills in key areas including:

  • Market research and segmentation
  • Brand development/management
  • Customer and supplier relations
  • Channel development/management
  • Demand creation and forecasting
  • Tradeshows and promotions

 

To qualify for the program you must hold a Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing with a 3.0 GPA or higher, have at least two leadership experiences such as a school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor or similar position, and have two related internships or six months of related experience. You must also be geographically mobile both on and off program.

Information Technology

As a Technology ADP participant, you will complete three 9-month assignments designed to help you develop a sound technology foundation with skills in key areas including:

  • Infrastructure
  • Smart Products
  • Supplier Management
  • Audit
  • Applications

 

To qualify for the program you must be pursuing an BS/BA in Management Information Systems(MIS) or Information Technology. You should have a 3.0 GPA or higher, and at least two leadership experiences such as a school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor or similar position, as well as two related internships or six months of related experience. You must also be geographically mobile both on and off program.

Human Resources

As a Human Resources ADP participant, you will complete two 12-month assignments – one each in a generalist and a specialist role – with an opportunity for an additional 6-month cross-functional assignment in a corporate or plant setting. Your experiences in the program will be designed to help you develop a sound HR foundation with skills in key areas including:

  • Organization Development
  • Employee relations
  • Talent acquisition
  • Performance management process
  • Compensation strategy
  • Selection/assessment
  • Communication strategy/planning
  • Change management

 

To qualify for the program you must be pursuing a Master's degree in Human Resources with a 3.0 GPA or higher, have at least two leadership experiences such as a school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor or similar position, and have two related internships or two to five years work experience. You must also be geographically mobile both on and off program.

Accounting/Finance

As an Accounting ADP participant, you will complete 2 ½ years rotating through three assignments in plant and sector/corporate roles.  Typical rotations include a 9 month rotation in cost accounting, followed by a 9 month rotation (assignment flexible), followed by 12 months in Audit Services.   Your experiences in the program will be designed to develop a strong accounting foundation with skills in key areas including:

  • New Product Costing
  • Cost Accounting
  • General Accounting
  • Standard Setting
  • Physical inventory
  • Audit
  • Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Financial analysis
  • Enterprise/sector projects
  • Tax

 

To qualify for the program you must hold a Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting with a 3.0 GPA or higher, have at least two leadership experiences such as a school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor or similar position, and have two related manufacturing internships or six months of related experience. You must also be geographically mobile both on and off program.

Engineering

As an Engineering ADP participant, you will complete two 12-18 month assignments, with the opportunity for an additional 6-month cross-functional assignment at a business unit or manufacturing facility in your region. Your experiences in the program will be designed to help you develop a sound engineering foundation with skills in key areas including:

  • New product development
  • Value analysis/value engineering
  • Six Sigma
  • FMEA and DFMEA
  • Product, component and reliability testing

 

To qualify for the program you should hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a 3.0 GPA or higher, have at least two leadership experiences such as a school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor or similar position, and have two related internships or six months of related experience. You must also be geographically mobile both on and off program.

Accelerated Development Programs

Ingersoll Rand's Accelerated Development Programs (ADPs) provide recent college graduates with challenging assignments, training and valuable exposure to our company's senior leaders. Through rotations and experiences in multiple geographic and business locations, our ADPs enable you to build diverse skill sets and a strong foundation for a successful and fulfilling career with Ingersoll Rand.

These unique programs differentiate us in the industry, and we seek the best of the best to become program members. To be considered for acceptance in one of our ADPs, you must hold a required degree for the specific program, with a 3.0 GPA or higher. You should have a minimum of two leadership experiences, such as a school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor or similar position and have at least two related internship experiences or six months of related work experience. You must also be geographically mobile both on and off program.

Trane® Graduate Training Program – Sales Engineering

The Trane Graduate Training Program – Sales Engineering (GTP) is a 5-month program designed to prepare engineers for a rewarding career in technical sales. The program is geared toward developing sales engineers who will sell Trane's complex heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) products and systems to commercial and industrial customers.

Started in 1926 and recognized as the industry's most comprehensive training program, the GTP provides you with intensive technical, business, sales and leadership training, with an emphasis on maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards. As a participant, you will attend lectures and technical presentations; hear about "real world" projects from visiting Trane sales engineers, managers and customers; complete challenging homework assignments; and participate in individual and team projects.

Your 5-month training period will be followed by a 6-month on-the-job training & mentoring period in a pre-determined office location. Sales office pre-assignments are available nationwide and will be confirmed prior to hire.

The overriding philosophy behind the GTP is to develop Trane account managers with the technical, interpersonal and business-related skills to support the company's "One Trane" strategy, which calls for seamless coordination of Trane's equipment, service, parts, controls, contracting and performance contracting sectors to provide one solution for the customer.

Trane strives to promote from within, which enables graduates of the GTP to go on to become successful sales engineers, marketing engineers, sales managers, district managers and executives throughout the company. Virtually all Trane sales managers and district managers are engineers who graduated from this program.

Trane actively recruits graduating engineers from all disciplines for the GTP, and attracts applicants from major universities worldwide. Is Technical Sales Right For You?

As talented engineers who enjoy selling, sales engineers are a rare breed. But with technology advancing at such a rapid pace, it's often imperative that the sales professionals behind the products are also accomplished engineers. For those with both skill sets, the rewards can be great.

Trane® relies on a sales staff with technical expertise and applications knowledge, in order to provide our commercial and industrial customers with the best HVAC products and systems. As a Trane sales engineer, you will apply your engineering knowledge to the sale of technical products, fully utilizing your engineering expertise while interacting with people having similar backgrounds -- mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, building owners/developers, industrialists and architects. You'll collaborate with talented professionals to ensure that the HVAC solutions we provide are precisely suited to each of our customers' unique requirements.

Technical Sales Internship Opportunities
If you've thought about sales engineering as a full-time career path post-graduation, the Trane Internship Program may be for you. As a sales intern, you'll have the opportunity to job-shadow some of the industry's best salespeople, and gain hands-on experience with our building solutions from start to finish. You'll do everything from take-offs to customer visits and presentations, which will give you a sense of ownership in the solution and a better understanding of the process. This 12-week, paid internship is a unique and valuable opportunity for you to gain insight into one of the most challenging and dynamic career opportunities available for engineering grads today.

Industrial Sales Development Program

The Sales Development Program is designed to prepare recent graduates for a rewarding career in technical sales for our expanding Compression Technology Service business. Upon completion of the 12 month program, employees are prepared to take on responsibilities of an Account Manager within a defined territory.  

As a participant, this program is geared towards building your skills and knowledge as an Account Manager, and developing your ability to consult, problem-solve and design solutions for a wide variety of our industrial customers. 

You will receive comprehensive training and project experience designed to expose you to all aspects of our industrial business, including: product knowledge, manufacturing, engineering, customer care, sales and marketing, service solutions, distribution, pricing, strategic accounts, and various other aspects of our business in support of our sales team and customers. 

You will work directly with senior leaders during a capstone project and will be assigned a sales mentor during the course of the program. You will be at one of our Customer Center/Distributors locations nationwide and will gain hands-on experience and build customer relationship skills as you job-shadow experienced Account Managers, call on customers and participate in selling our products and services.

  • 2.9 GPA or higher​
  • One internship and one leadership experience in extracurricular activity preferred​
  • Previous sales experience not required​

China-Based Sales Development Program

Ingersoll Rand's China-Based Sales Development Program is an elite 18-month program designed to accelerate the learning curve for new sales professionals in China, and prepare them to become the sales leaders of tomorrow.

As a participant, you will undergo immersive classroom training geared toward developing strong skills in a broad range of areas including: professional selling; customer service; business presentations; interpersonal leadership; product knowledge; and various other sales competencies. You'll also gain valuable on-the-job experience through assigned responsibilities in the field as a sales trainee.

Positions within the China-Based SDP are highly sought after -- each year Ingersoll Rand selects approximately 25 participants from among China's top universities of science and technology. In addition to the benefits of building a strong foundation for a rewarding sales career, graduates of the program take away lasting cross-sector professional and personal bonds with fellow graduates, which enhances their experiences and opportunities within Ingersoll Rand throughout their careers. Most China-Based SDP graduates choose to become sales professionals at one of our 20 locations in China.

To qualify for consideration, you should be a collaborative, driven, inventive individual with demonstrated academic, functional and technical excellence. You should also hold or be working toward a Bachelors or Masters degree in one of the following majors: Mechanical Engineering; Refrigeration; Architecture Design; Integration of Electrical and Mechanical Design; Computer Science and Technology; Computer Science Application; Electric Automation; Electronics Information Technology; Communications Engineering; or a related degree.
